About MJE and our services
- We are a local practice of registered tax agents in Mortdale. We handle individual and business tax returns, BAS and GST, trusts and SMSFs, bookkeeping and payroll, business advisory, tax planning, ASIC compliance and new business setup, all from one office.
- We are at Suite 2, 29-33 Pitt St, Mortdale NSW 2223, with a meeting room and full wheelchair access. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You are welcome to call ahead or book a time.
- Not at all. We look after clients across Mortdale, Oatley, Penshurst, Hurstville, Peakhurst, Allawah, Narwee and the wider St George area, plus clients further afield who work with us online. Local or not, you get the same care.
- Since 2000. For over twenty-five years we have looked after individuals and businesses across Sydney's south, and many of our clients have been with us for decades.
How we work
- Always. When you call MJE, you reach a real person who knows your name and your file, not a call centre or a machine. We use modern tools to save time and reduce errors, but a qualified person handles and reviews your work.
- Whichever you prefer. You can share documents securely online and never leave home, or come into our Mortdale office for a face-to-face chat. Many clients do a mix of both. The choice is always yours.
- However suits you. Share them securely online, email them, post them, or drop them at the office. We will let you know what we need, and we will keep everything safe.
- If you send an enquiry through the website, we aim to respond within one business day. If something is urgent, give us a call on (02) 9580 1167 and we will help straight away.
Fees and getting started
- It depends on the work involved, and we will always tell you the price before any work starts, so there are no surprises. A simple individual return costs far less than full business accounts. Give us a call and we will give you a clear idea.
- Generally, the cost of having a registered tax agent prepare and lodge your return, and give you tax advice, is deductible in your next return. We will confirm what applies to your situation.
- No. Switching is easy and we handle the changeover for you. We will request your records from your previous accountant, and most clients do nothing but say yes. Get in touch and we will take it from there.
- The easiest way is to request a callback through our contact page, or call us on (02) 9580 1167. We will find a time that suits, in person or online, and tell you what to bring.
Tax-time basics
- If you lodge your own return, the usual due date is 31 October. If you use a registered tax agent like us, you may be able to lodge later, provided you are on our client list in time. We will confirm your dates with you.
- Bring your income details (income statements, interest, dividends), records of any work-related or deductible expenses, last year's return if you have it, and some ID. Not sure about something? Bring it along, or call us first.
- Yes, and there is no judgement. We help people catch up on overdue returns all the time. We will work out what is outstanding and help you get straight with the ATO as smoothly as possible.
